Social media has proved to be a huge help in quickly sending out heartwarming stories or vital information. People count on their internet friends to share their most important posts, which can cause their friends to share their post, and the next thing you know, it’s gone viral!

Stewart Oaks from Sioux Falls, South Dakota knows the power of Facebook in helping him find his brother. He told CBS that he had known he had a younger brother, but he had never decided to look for him until decades later, after his family encouraged him.

Last summer, on his Facebook page, he posted a picture of himself holding a sign, and asked his friends to share.

“Looking for male born in Sioux Falls, SD [on] August 7, 1960,” it said, along with an email address.

It only took two days for his post to get over 6,000 shares. Out of all the supportive friends and curious onlookers, the most important person saw the photo: his brother, Mark Payne.

Mark only saw the photo from the mouth down, but he still knew that they had to be related.

“I looked at that and thought, ‘I look at that every morning in the mirror when I get ready for work,’” he told CBS.

The two brothers were ecstatic to meet and get to know each other—but there was shocking twist to their reunion.

“Almost our entire lives, we were probably no more than two miles apart from each other,” Mark said.

Both Stewart and Mark had stayed in Sioux Falls to raise their families, and they never knew their long-lost brother was just minutes away!
